The seconds completed a hat-trick of victories over Harlequins with another big score on Saturday. In three league matches this season against their city rivals they have racked up over 130 points and conceded less than 20.
James McBriar getting a deserved start at No. 10 for the 1sts and a back injury to Michael Davidson saw a different looking hinch. Jonny Coen moved from his centre berth to replace McBriar with Ian Wallace moving back to the second row to be replaced by the enthusiastic Stevie Turner.
Harlequins with their big heavy pack and Gareth Rourke in their ranks had the better of the early exchanges. For all their possession they seldom threatened a well organised visitor’s defence. Indeed it was hinch that thought they had the first score. Mark McCormick broke out of defence and popped the ball to the supporting Alan Dickson for Pete Glass to go over the line but only for the referee to adjudge the final pass was forward.
Quins did not make best use of the strong wind. They either kicked too long, or found the hinch back three willing to turn defence into attack. It was Nigel McBriar on the thirty minute mark that opened the scoring. Fielding the ball deep in his own half he set off on one of his runs that has become his trademark. All they way he went to score near the corner. The conversion was missed.
Hinch finished the first half off in fine style. Phil Orr took a clean catch at a lineout and the ball went out the length of the backs, was quickly recycled and went out to the backs again for Nigel McBriar to put Mattie Geddis in for the try. Jonny Coen added the extras.
Half time 0 – 12
Starting the second half Quins again had the lion share of possession, but it was hinch that looked the more dangerous with ball in hand. Harlequins were penalised ten minutes into the half, Lloyd Jones tapped and went, and Toby Mannus took the ball on and his pass to full back Pete Glass but him under the posts. Before Jonny Coen could get up for the conversion, Glass had the ball over the bar with a little drop kick.

Having had a knock on his ankle earlier the Quins out half limped off. Hinch were now dominating in every department. A shimmy and dummy from Jonny Coen created a gap for him to go through for a fine individual score, he also added the extras.
It was all to easy for the Hinch as they ran in two further converted scores, Phil Orr got the first under the posts and Lloyd Jones the latter after good work by Nigel McBriar and Jonny Coen.
