Gary McKelvey reports from Ballymacarn Park

Hinch hosted Strabane 2’s in the Butler Shield semi-final. Due to heavy rain the match was played at the High School Ballynahinch school grounds at the Belfast Road.

On a tight pitch the Hinch pack started strongly and took control early, well marshalled by Doddy Senior and Meruyn Tate the experienced heads in the pack. Hinch got a penalty scored by Adrian Dodd and further pressure on the visitors should have yielded more points but a few times clear overlaps were not used and the chances went.
Strabane came back up-field and got a penalty back. Hinch then got a further penalty but Strabane replied again to leave the scores at half time score was 6 - 6.

In the second half Hinch pressed again and an impressive Mervyn Tate scored to put daylight between the sides. The conversion by Carl Larkin made it 13 - 6.

In the second half Hinch pressed again and an impressive Mervyn Tate scored to put daylight between the sides. The conversion by Carl Larkin made it 13 - 6.

Strabane converted another penalty but Hinch kept their noses in front adding another two penalties again scored by Larkin to make the score 19 - 9.

This was the final score and Hinch will have their day out at Ravenhill. The team are all playing well especially the forwards, with Tatey standing out. Carl Larkin at fullback was also immense.
