On Thursday evening the Hinch seconds travelled the short distance into Belfast to play Queens in a rearranged league match.
With a strong enough team on paper the visitors knew they had to perform with plenty of players trying to claim positions. Queens kicked off with the elements behind them. Hinch hit the ground running and set the standard of the game in the first few minutes. They played their patterns well to produce clean, quick ball for the backs to find plenty of space. In the pack Toby Manus and Ryan Luske were brought in and showed they are both not scared to get about the park to make tackles and carry the ball.
It wasn’t long before Hinch got their first score when Mark McCormick dived over to keep his tally of the season ticking over. The Hinch pack dominated up front in the rucks as well as set pieces. It was a family affair in the first half as the points kept coming through tries from James McBriar, Niall Mcbriar, Reggie Orr, and Phil Orr. James McBriar kicking two conversions.
Queens did get a try ten minutes from half time when Aaron Ferris gave a beautiful pass out wide only for it to land in the hands of a Queens player who sprinted clear to touch down. The conversion was missed which left the half time score 29-5.

McCormick and Gregg Taylor had a lot of covering to do at the back. Queens did try and play a bit but the Hinch pack kept the pressure on with plenty of good lineout ball leading to powerful driving mauls.
More tries came through Garvin Morton, Mattie Glenn and John Gunson and Gregg Taylor both getting a brace each. McBriar was kicking well in the second half and added four conversions to the score board.
The full time score finishing at 67-5 to the men in green. The Hinch boys should be pleased with themselves after this performance as the controlled the entire game from start to finish. The set pieces provided great ball for the backs and on what was a terrible wet night the handling skills were second to none.
The next big game is against Dungannon in two weeks time in the quarter final of the Towns cup. Another good performance would be needed against a much tougher opposition.
Garvin Morton and the rest of the boys would like to congratulate two players from the team. David Harris and his wife Sarah-Louise had a baby boy on Saturday afternoon and also Mattie Glenn and his girlfriend Gilly got engaged on Saturday night. Best wishes to both of them from the Hinch 2ndXV. |
