Carrick 2’s Was A Tough Ask For the 4’s
    Ballynahinch 4thXV 12pts Carrick 2ndXV 29pts
Stephen Dowery reports from Ballymacarn Park

Hinch 4's faced Carrick 2's in the cup the week after having some mixed fortunes over the past few weeks, a heavy defeat to Cooke 2's, lucky victory over Hinch 5's in the 1st round of the cup and then a solid performance last week against Larne 2's to win quite comfortably.

Carrick 2's are currently sitting top of Junior 2 and defeated the 4's earlier in the season in the league. The winner of this game would face Hinch 3's in the next round of the cup. The game was played across the road which was particularly wet after overnight rain, both sides were happy enough to play despite the conditions on the understanding the ref would stop the game should a ruck form in a wet part for fear of someone drowning.

Hinch started the game well putting great pressure on the Carrick side in the set pieces, Nick McCavery getting the first score of the game after Hinch pressure saw the ball pop up in the air collected by McCavery who scored to the right of the post. The conversion was missed.

Hinch tails were up but it was short lived, some good organised play by Carrick and poor tackling and

indecision by Hinch saw Carrick score 3 tries converting 1 leaving the score 17-5 at half time.

Hinch started the second half well attacking Carrick and getting very close to the opposition line but just not making it over. Hinch fought well with Michael Evans, Ian Smith and James Gibbons doing a lot of good work in the rucks, Alistair Gordon and Davy Chambers carried well driving into the heart of the Carrick pack.

Despite Carrick scoring another 2 tries Hinch kept fighting scoring another try coming from some good continuity work by the pack and a good break by the impressive Davy Harper feeding the ball to Stuart McAllister who scored between the posts. Warren Nugent converting.

The game finished 29-12, this result was no surprise but could and should have been a lot closer with a little bit more organisation and fitness, both of which can only be sorted by attending training regularly.
